Staff Selection Commission is a department comes under Government of India. The main work is to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Govt. of India and in subordinate offices. This commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training, which consists of chairman, two members and secretary-cum controller of Examinations. His work is similar to that Additional secretary to the Govt. of India.
The functions of the Staff Selection Commission were defined by the Govt. of India through Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions in 21 May 1999.The Head Quarters of S.S.C is at New Delhi. There are 7 Regional offices and two sub-regional offices. Each Regional office is headed by a Deputy Director.
The Combined Graduate prelims exam is conducted by S.S.C once in a year. The Prelims Exam is conducted for selection of candidates for the Main Exam. S.S.C offers nearly 30,000 Central Govt. Jobs per year. The minimum qualification of this exam is plus two. The candidate must have a good knowledge about Geometry & Trigonometry. It will be helpful for exam. Through a regular Newspaper reading you will get a good knowledge in current affairs.
Exam PatternExamination will comprise of one paper of objective type with the following parts.
Time Available: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for VH Candidates.)
Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer

This Examination consists of three Objective Multiple choice papers which the candidates will be required to take depending upon their qualifications and options for various posts.
Time Available: 2 hours for Each Paper.
Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-2 and 0.50 marks for Paper-1 and paper-3

Tier III Consist of interview and skill test depending upon the post that you are applied.
Interview will carry a maximum of 100 marks. Candidates applying for Auditor, Accountant, UDCs, Tax Assistant and Compiler are not required to appear for an Interview.
Data Entry skill test is for the post of Tax Assistants (Central Excise and Income Tax). The “Data Entry Speed” skill Test at 2000 key depressions for duration of 15 minutes will be of qualifying nature.
Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) for post other than statistical Investigator Grade-II
